At her request, no formal services were held; however, a celebration of her life was set for May 2010. Schnider Funeral Home handled arrangements. Dorothy was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was born May 3, 1924, to Steven and Mary (Wadoka) Dolack at Number 7 near Tracy. Growing up during the beginning of the Depression, Dorothy's early years were tough. Because her father was a coal miner, Dorothy grew up in Armington and Belt. Her mother passed away when she was 8 years old, and a couple of years later, a tragic auto accident killed her beloved brother, Tony, and left Dorothy injured. While she was recuperating from the broken bones she suffered in the accident, Dorothy contracted scarlet fever, which left her with a permanent severe hearing loss. She then attended the School for the Deaf and the Blind in Great Falls. Prior to World War II, she moved to California to live with her sisters, Sally and Helene, where she attended and graduated from high school. During World War II, she worked for an aircraft manufacturer and later, for an insurance company. Dorothy came back to Montana to visit the rest of her family when the war ended. While in Montana, she met the love of her life, Henry Lassila. When she went back to California, Henry asked her to come back to Montana and be his wife. They were married in September 1946, at St. Ann's Cathedral in Great Falls. Dorothy and Henry moved to the family farm located east of Great Falls. She worked hard, being a farmer's wife, working hand-in-hand with her husband. Together they raised three children.Dorothy loved dogs and cats, especially her 20-year-old cat, Spike. She also enjoyed gardening, camping, boating and being with her family and friends. Dorothy especially enjoyed staying at a friend's house on Flathead Lake with her family. Dorothy loved listening to music, especially Willie Nelson. One of Dorothy's best friends over the years was her sister Katherine. Dorothy and Katherine had married brothers Henry and Ray, so their kids were double-cousins. Katie and Ray had Dennis (born 1947) and Carol ([C.J.] born 1953); Henry and Dorothy had Nancy (born 1951), Danny (born 1953), and Chuck (born 1958). When both families were young, they spent a lot of time together, since Henry and Ray were also good friends. Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Birtwistle; sons Daniel Lassila and Charles Lassila, all of Great Falls; two grandchildren, Christopher and Aaron Lassila; two great-grandchildren, Hunter and Cale; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Lassila in March 1974; all of her siblings: brothers Tony, Mike, John and Frank Dolack; and sisters Ann Sullivan, Mary Hilt, Helene Sharpe, Sally [Sophia] Beverlin and Katherine Lassila.
