Born Nov. 30, 1912, in Fort Madison, she was the daughter of Cecil J. and Edith Bennett Baxter Jr. In October 1937, she married Robert Nelson Johnson Jr. He preceded her in death. Mrs. Johnson was a lifelong resident of Fort Madison. She attended Drake University, where she studied fine arts. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Fort Madison and was active at St. Joseph grade school, where her children attended. She was a gifted musician and loved to play the piano. Born Nov. 30, 1912, in Fort Madison, she was the daughter of Cecil J. and Edith Bennett Baxter Jr. In October 1937, she married Robert Nelson Johnson Jr. He preceded her in death. Mrs. Johnson was a lifelong resident of Fort Madison. She attended Drake University, where she studied fine arts. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Fort Madison and was active at St. Joseph grade school, where her children attended. She was a gifted musician and loved to play the piano. She was an excellent cook, who enjoyed trying new recipes and entertaining friends and family in her home. She played tennis, the piano and bridge into her 80s. She was a member of PEO, Kings Daughters, Fort Madison Community Concert Association and the Fort Madison Country Club. Survivors include five sons, Nicholas Johnson of Omaha, Neb., David Johnson of Denver, Colo., Robert Johnson III and Gregory Johnson, both of Fort Madison, and Christopher Johnson of Austin, Texas; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Maxine McClean; and nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one sister.
