Survivors include a niece, Susan Chiafos of Cedar Rapids, with whom Dorothy made her residence; a nephew, Steven Egger of Central City; four other nieces, Shelia Prull and Andrey Lambert, both of Monticello, Virginia Hedges of North Liberty and Mary Leith Lamb of Iowa City; great-nieces and great-nephews Stephanie Chiafos, William Chiafos, Brent Egger and Sara Reasner; a great-great-niece, Gabrielle Chiafos; and a great-great-nephew, Aaron Chiafos, who gave Dorothy much joy and shared so much love with her. She was born Sept. 27, 1923, in Monticello, to John and Margaret O'Rouke Corcoran, and was a graduate of Sacret Heart High School in Monticello in 1940, where she was a basketball standout. She then attended and graduated from Mount Mercy Junior College in Cedar Rapids in 1948. She was a member of St. Matthew's Catholic Church. After high school, Dorothy served during World War II in the U.S. Navy until 1946, and then was employed in the Cedar Rapids Gazette classified advertising department for 25 years and was a member of the Gazette 25-year Anniversary Club. While at the Gazette, she received the Downtown Courtesy Award in 1961. She enjoyed her pastime hobbies of fishing and, when homebound, her soap operas on television. She also enjoyed being with family and will be greatly missed by her many dear friends. Her creed was, "Always laugh through your adversities during one's lifetime." A memorial fund has been established.
