"Dottie" Riggleman, 77, of Vine Street, Westernport, lost her short, but courageous battle with cancer on Friday, Aug. 2, 2013 at her home with her family by her side and holding her great-granddaughter's hands as she slipped peacefully away. "Dottie" Riggleman, 77, of Vine Street, Westernport, lost her short, but courageous battle with cancer on Friday, Aug. 2, 2013 at her home with her family by her side and holding her great-granddaughter's hands as she slipped peacefully away. Born on Jan. 3, 1936 at Piedmont, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Charles R. Legge and Hazel (Flick) Legge DeWitt. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Charles W. "Buster" Riggleman on May 31, 2009; a brother, Kenneth Legge; her stepfather, Evan DeWitt; and a son-in-law, Dennis W. Ashby Sr. Dottie graduated from Piedmont High School in 1953 and was still very proud of her beloved Piedmont Lions. After graduating, she worked in Washington, D.C. for the FBI. Upon returning to Piedmont, she worked for C&P Telephone Company. Protestant by faith, Dottie enjoyed working in her flower gardens and going to flea markets and yard sales. She was an avid Pittsburgh Pirates fan and was a wonderful, loving Mom, Grandma and Great-Grandma. Surviving are her children, Kim Bradley and husband Steve of Westernport, Pam Mentzer and husband Bill of Waynesboro, Pa., Christa Braithwaite and husband Joe of Piedmont and Steve Riggleman and wife Kim, of Piedmont; her grandchildren, Chris Pearce and wife Mindy of Keyser, W.Va., Jeremy Bradley of Westernport and Elizabeth Mentzer of Waynesboro; her great-granddaughters, who were the loves of her life, Sam, Tiffani and Autumn Pearce of Keyser; step-grandchildren, Nikki Markle and husband Kellen of San Angelo, Texas, JR Braithwaite and wife Candi of Keyser; and her step great-grandchildren, Xander and Aislin Markle of San Angelo. She also leaves behind her brothers, Charles Legge and wife Bonnie of Westernport and Evan DeWitt and wife Susan of Saltsburg, Pa.; a very special aunt, Leona DeWitt of Swanton; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Brotemarkle of Frostburg, Bobby Lee of Houston, Texas and Mary Riggleman of Cumberland; several nieces, nephews, cousins and her faithful companion, "Taco." Mrs. Riggleman's body has been donated to the Maryland Anatomy Board in accordance with her wishes. A memorial service will be conducted at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2013 at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Brenda Shreve officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until the hour of the service at 7 p.m. Inurnment will be held at a later date at the Philos Cemetery, Westernport. The family requests that memorial contributions be directed to the Tri-Towns Fire Department, 54 Second St., Piedmont, WV 26750 or to the American Cancer Society, 1050 E. Industrial Blvd., Unit 3, Cumberland, MD 21502. The family would like to thank Dr. Zaman and the WMHS Hospice Team for helping to make Mom's final days as comfortable as possible.
