Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Elwood with the Rev. Michael Wolff officiating. Burial will be at Elwood Cemetery. Elwood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. She was born April 24, 1938, to Otto Herbert Hansen and Elizabeth (DeBoer) Hansen at the family home in Elwood. Elwood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. She was born April 24, 1938, to Otto Herbert Hansen and Elizabeth (DeBoer) Hansen at the family home in Elwood. She was baptized in May 1938 in the Methodist Church in Elwood. She attended grade school and high school in Elwood and graduated in 1955. Following high school, she attended Bonnell Beauty Academy in Hastings and graduated with a degree in cosmetology. Upon graduating, she went to Lexington and worked for Modern Beauty Shop. Halloween night 1950, she met Ernest E. Fiene Jr. of rural Frontier County. They were married on June 16, 1957, at the Methodist Church in Elwood. They spent their honeymoon in New Orleans. Dorothy was confirmed in Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Elwood. Dorothy soon opened her own beauty salon, Modern Style Salon, in Elwood until 1970. She then obtained her real estate license and worked with Brell Real Estate. On Aug. 10, 1961, a daughter, Shannon Elizabeth, was born. On Christmas Eve 1963, another daughter, Sue Ann, was born. On Jan. 16, 1968, a son, Jonathan Edward, was born. Dorothy continued her real estate career, and in 1985, she and friends opened The Gingerbread Shoppe in Elwood. They closed the shop in 2004, and in 2006, Dorothy opened another gift shop, Tres Chic, for two years until her health caused her to retire. In 1996, Dorothy and Ernie built a beautiful home on Johnson Lake where they enjoyed many beautiful sunsets. Dorothy was active in Girl Scouts, church choir, Elwood Arts Council, Chamber of Commerce and LWML/Ladies Aid and was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. She is survived by her husband, Ernie Fiene Jr. of Johnson Lake; three children, Shannon Williams of Lincoln, Sue and Greg Bruening of Omaha and Jonathan Fiene and Dixie Carr of Elwood; grandchildren, Taylor Dennis, Derek and Oksana Dennis, Brock Williams, Alexander Bruening, Erik Bruening, Justin and Alexa Kraus and Keegan Strohl; great-grandson, Ryder Kraus; sisters, Althea Schroeder and Lola Debban; brother, Donald Hansen; sisters-in-law, Marilyn Frost, Carleen Fiene and Hilda Hansen; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Dorothy was preceded in death by her mother and father; brothers, Howard Hansen and Lowell Hansen; brothers-in-law, Donald Fiene, Eldon Fiene, Carroll Schroeder, Bill Debban, Glen Davis and Dan McGrath; and sisters-in-law, Winnie Hansen, Inez Hansen, Leoda Davis, Deloris McGrath and Louise Fiene.
