She was born March 19, 1907, the daughter of a pioneer family, Albert W. and Ann Elizabeth (Emery) Hyde at Seattle, Washington. She moved with her family to Eagle Harbor now Winslow and then to Oak Harbor on Whidby Island. They came to the Brewster area by steamboat up the Columbia River in 1913 and settled on Paradise Hill. Dorothy graduated from the Brewster High School as Valedictorian of her class after which she attended Business School in Wenatchee. In 1929 she married Leonard Sparks and they made their home in Wenatchee for a while then they moved to Brewster where she has since resided. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard, in 1947. for several years Dorothy was employed by the different apple sheds doing office work. She was employed at the Okanogan Douglas Hospital at Brewster. Dorothy was the clerk for the Brewster schools for a number of years. In 1948 she married Theodore "Ted" Driessen. He preceded her in death in 1984. She is survived by her daughter, Sally Cameron of Baltimore, Maryland; son, Terry Sparks of Calgary, Canada; two step-daughters, Geraldine McCormick and Jean LittleJoh both of Spokane; two sisters, Avilda Curtis of Alta Lake and Marion Robinson; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers and four sisters. Services will be conducted, Saturday, January 24, 1998 at 2 pm from Barnes Chapel, Brewster, with Rev. Lawrence S. Cameron officiating. Interment to follow at the Brewster Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 1 to 8 pm Barnes Chapel. A reception for friends and family will be held following the service in the Brewster House Restaurant at Brewster. Services under the direction of Barnes Chapel, Brewster.
