Schmitt, 88, of Kimball will be 10:30 am Friday, October 12, 2012 at St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Kimball with burial in St. Margaret's Catholic Cemetery at Kimball. The 5th of 8 children, Dorothy Elizabeth Sullivan was born June 14, 1924 on the family farm north of Kimball, SD while a tornado was passing through the yard, to Columbus and Josephine(Hoelker)Sullivan.She attended grade school at Waldro Country School and graduated from Kimball High School in 1942. She continued to help on the family farm until she was united in marriage to Delbert Schmitt on January 2, 1946 at St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Kimball. She actively farmed with Delbert raising lots of chickens, milking cows, and helping with the field work when needed.Dorothy spent her spare time doing embroidery work, reading, playing cards, and her favorite thing was going to polka dances with Delbert. Dorothy was a lifetime member of St. Margaret's Catholic Church and a member of the Catholic Daughters of America. Dorothy passed away on October 8, 2012 at the Sanford Care Center in Chamberlain, SD at the age of 88 years. Grateful for sharing her life are her son Dennis and special friend Donna Falcon of Reliance; two daughters Diane Hanson (Bruce) of Kimball, and Gail Leheska (Steve) of Chamberlain; 8 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren; two sisters Lucille Kunzweiler (Clem) of Kimball and Agnes Piskule (Kenneth) of Kimball; a brother-in-law Francis Grassel of Artesian; three sisters-in-law Dorothy Sullivan of Sioux Falls, Gwen Sullivan of Port Angeles, WA, Alice Sullivan of Kimball; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Delbert in 2002; a grandson Brian in 2003; three brothers Joseph, William and Raymond Sullivan; two sisters Josephine Fortin and Loretta Grassel; and a brother-in-law Leo Fortin.
