Dorothy Ellen (Doop) Jacobson was born on June 29, 1924, to Calvin Omar and Gertrude (Gerdes) Doop. Dorothy was born and raised in rural Oakwood Township, Bruce, South Dakota. She attended country school and graduated from Volga High School in 1943. On February 12, 1944, she married Clifford Alvin Jacobson at the family farm in rural Oakwood. During World War II, she lived with Cliff’s parents and near him in Georgia, then later they lived in Madison and Rapid City, South Dakota while he attended college. They moved their family to Arlington and Sinai, before making their home in Brookings in 1961. Dort enjoyed entertaining at her home and the cabin at Lake Poinsett, both were always a gathering spot for family and friends. Laugher and humor were strong elements in their lives. She loved to travel with Cliff and made lifelong friendships with other ‘collectors’ of antiques, coins, and glassware. They looked forward to musical events with the ‘Town and Country Stompers’ and later formed a small band to entertain at retirement centers called the ‘Top Hats’. Cliff and Dort followed their grandchildren through school, musical, and sporting events, and entertained them during many ‘stay overs’ with games and road trips. Dort loved her family and still did babysitting for her great-grandchildren. Dorothy was a member of First Lutheran Church in Brookings, and will be interred at Oakwood Zion Cemetery, rural Bruce, South Dakota. Survivors include Dort’s daughters: Jacqueline Jean Lounsbery, Teresa Lee Robuck, and Barbara Lynn St. Clair; grandchildren: Amber Jean Olson, Matthew Alan Lounsbery, and Jeffrey Clifford Lounsbery; great-grandchildren: Daniel Jaron Olson, Cain Jeffrey Lounsbery, Cole Jacob Lounsbery, and Camryn Jean Lounsbery; brother Richard (Joyce) Doop; sister Polly Enevoldson; and sisters-in-law Marilyn and Caroline Doop. She is preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Alvin Jacobson; her parents, Omar and Gertrude Doop; brothers: Dale, Harlan, Roger, Gordon, Gilmer, and Wayne Doop; and sisters: Virginia Crawford and Delores Montgomery. - Eidsness Funeral Home
