She was a descendent of the early Geren and Carlton settlers of the Candies Creek area of Bradley County. She spoke often of her childhood playing in the wildflower meadows of Candies Creek until her family relocated to the Chattanooga Valley, Ga., area where she attended high school. Read More	Cleveland Daily Banner Dec. 6, 2007 Dorothy ‘Dott' Stalcup Dorothy "Dott" Carlton Stalcup, 76, passed away, Monday, Dec. 3, 2007, in a Chattanooga hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. She was a descendent of the early Geren and Carlton settlers of the Candies Creek area of Bradley County. She spoke often of her childhood playing in the wildflower meadows of Candies Creek until her family relocated to the Chattanooga Valley, Ga., area where she attended high school. While raising her daughters, she worked for Cutter's Laboratory and then spent years helping homeless and disadvantaged individuals. She had great compassion for the least among us. She was a strong force in her neighborhood for order and pride. She was an excellent cook who loved having all her nieces and nephews come to eat; preparing our Thanksgiving meal was her greatest joy. Her love and concern for all the family never faded as she quietly reached out to touch all our lives as only she could. The strength and courage she portrayed in her life was an example to all her family to get up and live each day to its fullest. She had a great love for animals and wildlife and will be sadly missed by her fur and feathered friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Kins C. (Ruby Geren) Carlton; brothers, Leland Carlton and Kins Carlton Jr.; sister, Margaret Brown; first husband, David A. Bradford; and husband, William F. Stalcup. Survivors include her daughters: Sue (Jimmy) Buchanan and Aileen (Danny) Carroll; grandchildren: Becky (Mike) Moore, Mickey (Stephanie) Buchanan, Andrew (Rachel) Carroll, and Matthew (Jewell) Carroll; great-grandchildren: Garrett Moore, Nicholas Moore, Patrick Carroll and Ethan Carroll; sister, Sara Stone; caring niece, Ruby Cate; and many very loved nephews, nieces and cousins. The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, 2007, at Turner Funeral Home, Highway 58 Chapel with Louis McDaniel officiating. Interment will be at the Candies Creek Cemetery with grandsons and nephews serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
