Description	:	Born Feb. 9, 1901, in Roscoe, she was the daughter of Merrett Thomas "M.T." and Florence Bowman Evans. On Sept. 24, 1926, she married William Work Carithers in Roscoe. He died Jan. 2, 1993. Mrs. Carithers taught English in southeastern Iowa. She and her husband farmed together and she continued to own and operate the family farm south of Morning Sun following her husband's death. Read More	Born Feb. 9, 1901, in Roscoe, she was the daughter of Merrett Thomas "M.T." and Florence Bowman Evans. On Sept. 24, 1926, she married William Work Carithers in Roscoe. He died Jan. 2, 1993. Mrs. Carithers taught English in southeastern Iowa. She and her husband farmed together and she continued to own and operate the family farm south of Morning Sun following her husband's death. She and three others were the first demonstration team from Des Moines County 4-H to go to the Iowa State Fair. They returned at the 50th anniversary and gave their original presentation. She was a 1925 graduate of Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Pleasant, where she was a member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority and on the track and tennis teams. She continued to be active in 4-H and became a 4-H leader and chairman of Des Moines County 4-H. She helped start the hot lunch program and band uniforms in the local school. She was a member of United Methodist Church in Morning Sun and United Methodist Women, holding many officers and serving in numerous capacities. She enjoyed reading, sewing, gardening, refinishing and restoring antique furniture, music and local sports, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes. She had a great interest in history and made scrapbooks. Survivors include one daughter, Florence Dorman of Morning Sun; two sons, J. Richard "Dick" Carithers of Wapello and Robert Carithers of Ames; nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one grandson, three brothers and two sisters. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20, at Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Morning Sun, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral for Mrs. Carithers will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 21, at United Methodist Church in Morning Sun, with the Rev.
