She was born on Jan. 12, 1912, west of Zwingle, daughter of Frank and Nellie (Feeney) Slattery. She married Wilton F. Keeney on July 15, 1937, in Andrew; he preceded her in death on June 6, 2002. She was a 1931 graduate of Holy Rosary High School in La Motte. She attended the University of Dubuque for two years, graduating with her teaching certificate. Dorothy was a schoolteacher for eight years in a one-room schoolhouse in rural Dubuque prior to marriage. After teaching, she was a homemaker. She was a member of the Prince of Peace Parish, St. Boniface Rosary Society, Dubuque County Teachers Association, Parent Teacher Association and various home and school organizations. Surviving are her children, Joe (Audrey) Keeney, of Davenport, Mary Ellen (Gary) Van Goethem, of Moline, Ill., Phil (Jeanne) Keeney, of Crawfordsville, Ind., and Dave Keeney, of Clinton; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; sisters, Ila Thomsen and Monica Ries, both of Clinton; and a brother, Ray "Gus" (Jeanette) Slattery, of Dubuque. She also was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters; and two brothers.
