Description	:	Dorothy Fay Zoerb died Friday, February 10, 2012 at the Ainsworth Care Center in Ainsworth, NE, at the age of 88. Dorothy was born on October 12, 1923, the fifth of seven children to Clarence and Margaret (Samples) Bain. She grew up on the family homestead along the Calamus River in southern Brown County, NE, and graduated from the eighth grade at the rural school near their home. Read More	Dorothy Fay Zoerb died Friday, February 10, 2012 at the Ainsworth Care Center in Ainsworth, NE, at the age of 88. Dorothy was born on October 12, 1923, the fifth of seven children to Clarence and Margaret (Samples) Bain. She grew up on the family homestead along the Calamus River in southern Brown County, NE, and graduated from the eighth grade at the rural school near their home. She lived with her aunt and uncle in Taylor, NE and attended Taylor High School through her junior year, but when her mother became ill in 1941, Clarence and Margaret moved with their three youngest children to Long Pine, NE. Dorothy graduated from Long Pine High School on May 22, 1942. On June 8, 1942, she married Benjamin Edward Zoerb in Broken Bow, NE. Ben and his brother Fred had purchased the ranch across the Calamus River from Dorothy's childhood home and that is where Ben and Dorothy began their married life. They kept the new ranching operation going while Fred served in World War II and during that time their oldest child, Sharon, was born on December 27, 1943, followed by son Larry on June 19, 1945. In the 1950's, Ben and Dorothy purchased an acreage three miles south of Ainsworth so that they could be closer to town for school and on August 8, 1958, their youngest daughter, Tammy was born. Ben retired in the mid 1970s and they sold the ranch on the river and purchased their last home in Ainsworth. Dorothy continued to live in the house on Ash Street after Ben's death in 1989. When Sharon died in 1990, Dorothy brought Sharon's oldest son, Keith, to live with her and looked after his welfare until her health became such that she moved into assisted living at Cottonwood Villa in 2010. After a sudden illness in October 2011, she was moved to Ainsworth Care Center, where she was cared for until her death. Dorothy enjoyed her large extended family and enjoyed visiting with friends and neighbors. She and Ben loved to play cards and for many years belonged to a card club that met to play regularly. They enjoyed dancing and belonged to a square dance club. Dorothy was a member of the Extension Club and when they moved closer to town, she joined in many other community activities. She was an active member of the Jewel Rebekah Lodge for almost 45 years, volunteered with the blood bank, served on the election board for many years and delivered meals-on-wheels. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and greatly enjoyed her fellowship time there. She belonged to the ladies circle and helped to serve many dinners at the church. Preceding her in death are her husband Ben; daughter Sharon Miller; sisters Hazel Latham and Iva "Susie" Christopher; brothers Howard, Clifford "Bounce", Lester "Gus" and Harold Bain and granddaughter Joy Zuver. Survivors include son Larry Zoerb of Long Pine; daughter Tammy (Don) Zuver of Chadron, NE; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; sisters-in law Evelyn Bain of Burke, SD, Leah Bain of Maui, HI and Betty Zoerb of Parkston, SD and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held on February 15, 2012 at the United Methodist Church with Pastor Eldon Davis officiating. Music was provided by Linn Baxter and Lisa Wiebesiek, with special music selections of "How Great Thou Art" and "One Day At A Time." Pallbearers were Roger McCoy, Jim Campbell, Rod Imm, Mike Baxter, Keith Baker and Matt Arens. Honorary bearers were all of Dorothy's other friends and family. Burial was held at the Ainsworth Cemetery under the direction of Hoch Funeral Home. Memorials were directed to the Ainsworth United Methodist Church.
