Description	:	Dorothy Faye Miller (nee Koep) of Grinnell, IA, formerly of Cedar Rapids, IA and Belle Plaine, IA, passed away on September 17, 2017 at the age of 94. Dorothy was born August 4th, 1923 in Keystone, IA to Louie and Amelia Koep. She graduated from St. Luke’s Nursing School in 1944 after which she enlisted in the Army, serving as a nurse and Second Lieutenant. She married Thomas A Miller on her birthday in 1947. Read More	Dorothy Faye Miller (nee Koep) of Grinnell, IA, formerly of Cedar Rapids, IA and Belle Plaine, IA, passed away on September 17, 2017 at the age of 94. Dorothy was born August 4th, 1923 in Keystone, IA to Louie and Amelia Koep. She graduated from St. Luke’s Nursing School in 1944 after which she enlisted in the Army, serving as a nurse and Second Lieutenant. She married Thomas A Miller on her birthday in 1947. She worked as a nurse at St. Luke’s Hospital until 1980 when macular degeneration caused her to retire. Dorothy amazed everyone with her ability to adjust to her very limited vision. She and Tom enjoyed many years of travel, visiting 13 countries and taking many cross country trips to visit family and friends. In 2010 she participated in the Eastern Iowa Honor Flight which took WWII veterans to Washington DC. At home, Dorothy enjoyed many walks around the block to keep physically fit, listening to books on tape, knitting, and gardening rhubarb and tomatoes. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Miller in 2007; son, Craig Miller in 1985; sister Millie Schild in 2013; and brother Stanley Koep in 1996. She is survived by sons Grant (Barbara) Miller of Mendocino, California and Kent (Cheryl) Miller of Santa Rosa California; granddaughters Janelle (Matt) Halblom of Urbana, Dawn Sedlacek (Adam Moritz) of Cedar Rapids, Alisha (Todd) Crabtree of Nine Mile Falls, Washington, and Carley Miller of Santa Rosa; and grandsons Kevin Miller and Michael Miller of Santa Rosa, California; great-grandchildren Christopher (Kenzie), Drake, and Peyton Halblom, Jacob Hasley and Jocelyn Moritz and Trevor and Lacy Crabtree; brother-in-law Dick Schild; devoted nephew Don (Jeananne) Schild and niece Ann Schild Reinhardt and grand-niece Tricia (Buck) Carl; daughter-in-law Chris (Marv) Schaufenbuel; and honorary daughter Teresa Williams. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 21st from 4 to 6 p.m. at Teahen Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids. Memorials may be directed to the family.
