Description	:	Dorothy Gay Behrens, 98 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Sunday, November 21, 2010 at the Christian Homes Care Community in Holdrege. Dorothy was born on August 3, 1912 in Loomis, Nebraska, the only child of Harry A. and Verna (Edeal) Bloom. Dorothy received her primary education in Loomis and Wausa, Nebraska, graduating from Wausa High School with the class of 1930. Read More	Dorothy Gay Behrens, 98 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Sunday, November 21, 2010 at the Christian Homes Care Community in Holdrege. Dorothy was born on August 3, 1912 in Loomis, Nebraska, the only child of Harry A. and Verna (Edeal) Bloom. Dorothy received her primary education in Loomis and Wausa, Nebraska, graduating from Wausa High School with the class of 1930. Dorothy then pursued higher education from Van Sant Business School in Omaha, Nebraska. On April 21, 1936 she was united in marriage to Everett B. Behrens at the First Methodist Church in Holdrege and to this union two children were born: Marlene and Linda. They made their home on a farm near Holdrege. In 1945, they moved to their home on Hancock Street in Holdrege, where they stayed until 2000. In February of 2000, they moved to Chrisoma West in Holdrege. She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett on March 17, 2000. Dorothy was a member of the First United Methodist Church for 74 years and served as church secretary for 27 years. She was an active participant in UMW, church circle, bible study and taught Sunday School. She volunteered at Holdrege Memorial Homes and enjoyed delivering Meals-On-Wheels. Dorothy was a member of the Order of Eastern Star-Concordia Chapter. After Dorothy moved to Chrisoma West she did daily visits to several people in assisted living and Christian Homes. She always had a smile on her face and was loved by all. She loved the bird aviary at Christian Homes, Dorothy would stop by the Cockatiels and they would come to the front of the cage and talk to her. Dorothy and her husband, Everett loved to travel, play cards with friends and attend community concerts. She was a member of Mother's Club and Birthday Club. Dorothy was an avid reader and did daily crossword puzzles. Her favorite game was Scrabble and she especially loved playing with her grandson, Chris. She was lucky to have one grandchild, Chris grow-up in Nebraska and she never missed an activity that he was in from his preschool programs to college graduation. She was thrilled to meet her newest great-grandchild, Amelie this past summer. Besides her parents and husband, Everett, Dorothy was preceded in death her brother-in-law, Roy Behrens and his wife, Avis. Dorothy leaves to mourn her passing daughters: Marlene Smith and her husband, Milton of Sun Lakes Arizona, Linda Haddan and her husband, Gary of Bothell, Washington; grandchildren: Boyd Smith of Bellevue, Washington, Kurt Smith and his wife, Kaycie of Chandler Arizona, Beth Valliere and her husband, Luc of Chicago, Illinois, Chris Haddan of Sammamish, Washington; great-grandchildren: Brett Smith, Garrison Smith, Kaden Smith and Amelie Valliere; very special friends that were like daughters to her: Linda Winter and Karen Priester; and a host of friends and relatives.
