Tong Passes Away At Pierre Hospital – Interment Made At Miller Death is always sad but when it takes a young wife and mother, it is doubly so, and the whole community was shocked to learn of the death of Mrs. William tong, formerly Miss Dorothy Hunt, who passed away at noon Friday at St. Mary's Hospital at Pierre. On August 23rd, a son was born to Mrs. Tong and she was apparently getting along very well. Several days later she became very ill, and on September 1st, was taken to the hospital at Pierre for treatment. He condition continued to grow more serious, and in hope of giving her some relief, a blood transfusion was given, her brother, Brenner, giving the transfusion. She was constantly attended by nurses and a staff of doctors, who labored constantly in an effort to pull her through. On Friday morning as a last resort an operation was performed, but she never rallied, although conscious to the end. Her parents, brother and her husband were with her constantly during her illness. The remains were brought to Miller, and on Monday afternoon, amid a beautiful profession of flowers, she was laid to rest in the family lot in the G.A.R. cemetery. Services were held at the Methodist Church, of which the deceased was a member, the Rev. L. J. Sheldon officiating. Pall bearers were Kentner Wilson, Dwight Leyson, John Haverstock, Scott Davison, Aubrey Fitzgerald and Martin Conner. Beautiful floral offerings were a silent tribute to the character of the departed one. Dorothy Genevieve Tong was the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. N. Hunt, and spent practically her entire life here. She was born and raised in Miller, and resided here until 1924, when with her parents she moved to Wisconsin. She returned a year later, and taught a term of school, leaving the next spring for Florida to join her parents. It was there that she met Mr. Tong, and they were married o February 16, 1927. For some time they made their home in Palm Beach until the season opened and Mr. Tong rejoined Sousa's Band. She traveled with him until about two months ago, when she joined her parents and came to Highmore with them. To those who all her life had known and loved her it is not necessary to eulogize. She was an excellent young woman, who by her unassuming sweetness made every acquaintance a friend. Only twenty-one years of age, she was taken in all the beauty of youth, and her memory will remain forever in the hearts of those who loved her. Surviving her departure are her husband and baby son, the father and mother, one brother, a number of other relatives and many close friends who are deeply grieved by her passing. Out of town relatives who attended the last rites were the grandmothers of the deceased, Mrs. D.T. Brenner of Chicago, and Mrs. Hunt of Grand Forks, N.D.; Mrs. Carl Lindgren and son of Warren, Minn., and Mrs. Harry Parshall of Chicago, aunts of Mrs. Tong.
