Description	:	Dorothy Grace Sands was born Aug. 28, 1917, the only child to Elmer and Goldie Fink, in Park City. She passed away Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003, in Everett, Wash. She adapted well and went through her life with a dedication of teaching sound... Read More	Dorothy Grace Sands was born Aug. 28, 1917, the only child to Elmer and Goldie Fink, in Park City. She passed away Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003, in Everett, Wash. While growing up, her family spent many years in Sidney, where she graduated from high school in 1935. She returned to Park City, where she met and married her husband of 38 years, Harry Sands. Together, they raised five children, which was a rather courageous task for a woman who had not had the experience of a big family. She adapted well and went through her life with a dedication of teaching sound morals and principles to her children. Even though their lives were simplistic, memories of those times would find her gardening, cooking, canning over a hot stove (where incidentally, some of the best dill pickles were created) sewing clothes for her children (from winter coats to prom dresses), and in her spare time she attended any event that any of her "five" were involved in. In addition, Dorothy and Harry owned and operated the Park City Mercantile for many years. Dorothy had a passion for the piano, loved to dance, was active in the American Legion Auxiliary, the Garden Club and even the "Homemakers Club." In later years, she enjoyed painting and crafts, and the last few years found great peace along the waters of Puget Sound. She had a good sense of humor and always enjoyed hearing or telling a good joke. Most of her life, she was not outspoken, but in the last few years didn't mind telling you exactly what was on her mind. She experienced many facets of life in 86 years - the birth of children, the loss of children, Patricia Kauffmann (May 20, 1987), Lynn Sands (May 15, 1990); the loss of her husbands, Harry (Feb. 10, 1978) and Dave Snyder (Feb. 4, 1989), but felt much joy in all of the in between. The extension of her life leaves her remaining three children, Bev Amen and her husband Ralph of Billings, Terry Sands and his wife Carol of Mandan, N.D., and Jodie Dost of Everett; 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 20, at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary with interment in the Park City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
