Description	:	Dorothy H. Ommen age 101, of Monticello, died Wednesday afternoon, January 28, 2009 at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held 11:00 Saturday morning January 31, 2009 at St. Johns Lutheran Church rural Monticello with interment in the St. Johns Cemetery. Rev. Reed Stockman will officiate at the services. Friends may call after 9:00 Saturday morning at the church. She was preceded in death by her Parents, a daughter-in-law Luanne Ommen, a son Robert in 1938 and her husband Gerhardt in 1969. Dorothy H. Hance was born June 17, 1907 in Silver Springs, Arkansas. She was the daughter of Robert L. and Ada Smith, Hance. Dorothy received her early education in the Silver Springs Schools. She graduated from the Monticello Community Schools with the class of 1925. She continued her education at the John McDonald Hospital School of Nursing. She then worked as a private nurse for Dr. DeShaw, assisting in delivering babies and extended care in the home. Dorothy Hance and Gerhardt Ommen were married November 21, 1930 at Old Brick in Iowa City. The couple farmed near Langworthy and for several years Dorothy worked for Dr. DeShaw. Following Gerhardts death in 1969 Dorothy returned to nursing working at the Monticello Senior Home. In 1975 she moved to Iowa City to be near her daughter. In July of 2003 Dorothy returned to Monticello and resided at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Dorothy had been a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church and Gloria Dei and Zion Lutheran in Iowa City. In early years she had been active in the Ladies Aid.
