Description	:	Dorothy passed away Thursday afternoon at the Mahaska Hospital in Oskaloosa. Dorothy Prine Dickinson, daughter of Seth and Clara Beagle Canine, was born at the home of her parents near Union Mills, Makaska County, Iowa on July 15, 1920. She attended grade school at the McMains Country Grade School at Union Mills, she then attended three years of high school in Lacey and went on to graduate from New Sharon High School in 1938. Read More	Dorothy passed away Thursday afternoon at the Mahaska Hospital in Oskaloosa. Dorothy Prine Dickinson, daughter of Seth and Clara Beagle Canine, was born at the home of her parents near Union Mills, Makaska County, Iowa on July 15, 1920. She attended grade school at the McMains Country Grade School at Union Mills, she then attended three years of high school in Lacey and went on to graduate from New Sharon High School in 1938. She was crowned the 1939 Rose Queen at New Sharon Rose Festival, now known as the Spring Festival. Following graduation Dorothy worked for Iowa Power and Light in New Sharon. Dorothy helped in the organization of the Youth Recreational Center in New Sharon during World War II; she enjoyed helping young people all of her life. June 2, 1946, she married Dan Prine at the New Sharon United Methodist Church. They moved to the Prine Century Farm, R.R.#3 where their son David was born and raised. Their son David continues to live on the farm. Dan passed away January 1970. March 11, 1972, Dorothy married Dale Marlowe Dickinson, they made their home in Oskaloosa and Dorothy worked in the library at the Jefferson Elementary School for several years. Dale passed away May 20, 2003. Dorothy was a past member of the New Sharon United Methodist Church, where she had served as a Sunday school superintendent and teacher. After moving to Oskaloosa she joined the First Christian Church, where she served on various committees. She was a member of Joy & Esther Groups of Christian Women's Fellowship. Dorothy was also a member of Oskaloosa Women's Club, Centennial King's Daughters and Sons, P.E.O. Chapter NN, a 50 year member of T.T. T. past president and member of Chapter CY, New Sharon Historical Society, 50 Plus Club, AARP, Lincoln Township Farm Bureau, Red Hatters, Farm Bureau and past county treasurer of Mahaska County Farm Bureau Women, Mahaska County Republican Women, Daughters of the Nile Netaker Temple and a 50 year member of Eastern Star #146. She was a lifetime member and a past president of the Mahaska Co. Historical Society, and life member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, she also enjoyed collecting baskets and Isabelle Bloom funny figurines. Those left to cherich Dorothy's memory include her son, David Prine of Oskaloosa; her step-sons and their wives: Marlowe and Beverly Dickinson and Dave and Barbara Dickinson, of Oskaloosa; Jim and Kathy Dickinson of West Des Moines; and Doug Dickinson of Ankeny, Iowa; ten step-grandchildren and many step-great grandchildren; a niece, Cleta Chaney and her husband Guy and their children and Brandy & Brandon Plate, all of New Sharon; and several cousins and friends. Besides her parents and her husbands, Dorothy was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law: Beverly Prine; two sisters and brothers-in-law: Frances Fox Grosenbach(Cletus Fox and Emory Grosenbach)and Wilda May Lindhorst; and a step-grandson, Matthew Dickinson, and one sister-in-law Geneva Lindhorst. Visitation: will begin at 10 am Monday morning, October 17, 2011 at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel. The family will be present from 5-7 pm to greet visitors. Funeral Service: 10:30 am Tuesday morning, October 18, 2011 at the funeral chapel with Reverend Michael Omundson of the First Christian Church officiating. Interment: Prine Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Nelson Pioneer Farm.
