She was born in Kokomo on Oct. 5, 1919, the daughter of Lloyd and Eva (Dickey) Copp. She married Arthur Chism on Oct. 8, 1939, in Kokomo, and he survives. Dorothy was a 1937 graduate of West Middleton High School and along with her husband, owned and operated Chism Ceramics for more than 50 years. Chism, 88, Kokomo, died at 12:05 a.m. Wednesday, July 16, 2008, at North Wood Commons. She was born in Kokomo on Oct. 5, 1919, the daughter of Lloyd and Eva (Dickey) Copp. She married Arthur Chism on Oct. 8, 1939, in Kokomo, and he survives. Dorothy was a 1937 graduate of West Middleton High School and along with her husband, owned and operated Chism Ceramics for more than 50 years. Dorothy also made porcelain dolls, including lace draping, as well as costumes for Betty Hayes Dance Studio. Her creativity was evident in all she did and her membership in the American Sewing Guild and Kokomo Art Association exemplified her talents. She was also an active member of Kokomo Church of the Brethren. Surviving, in addition to her husband, Art, are four daughters, Charlotte Feller and her husband, Ron, Silver Lake, Carol Bowers and her husband, Denny, Kokomo, Christine Dykstra, Fishers, and Iris Habener, Indianapolis; nine grandchildren, Rhonda Sauder, Tony Feller, Stacey Lawhead, Mark Feller, Scott Bowers, MD, Shelly George, Nicole Wilson, Christopher Krebs and Keith Krebs; 27 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Eugene Copp; and one grandchild, Kym Sager. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Shirley and Stout Funeral Home, Lincoln Road Chapel, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, with Pastor Mark Stahl officiating. Burial will follow in Crown Point Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday. Memorial contributions may be made to Kokomo Church of the Brethren and/or to the Alzheimer's Association with envelopes available at the funeral home.
