Dorothy June Richmond, 88 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at the CHI Health – Good Samaritan in Kearney, Nebraska. She was born June 2, 1929 near Upland, Nebraska in Kearney County, the only child born to Emanuel Theodor and Nancy Mae (Husband) Ibsen. In 1942, the family relocated south of Holdrege, where she attended school at Ragan Public School, graduating from Ragan High School in 1946. She then pursued higher education at Kearney State College. She was then employed in North Platte, Nebraska for a brief time before moving to Denver, Colorado, where she met the love of her life, Alfred B. Richmond, Jr. They met while roller skating, when Al asked Dorothy to join him skating the Grand March. On March 5, 1952, she was united in marriage to Al, and to this union, they were blessed with three daughters: Suzanne Marie, Brenda Joyce, and Debbie Jean. The couple resided in Denver, while Al was serving in the Air Force as a Military Policeman at Lowry AFB. Following his discharge, they moved to Pikeville, Tennessee for a few years, before settling back to Holdrege. They made their home on a farm south of Holdrege on the Harlan/Phelps County line, where they engaged in farming. Al was transferred to Deerfield, Kansas for a few years with Quality Oil Company, and then the couple returned back to Holdrege for the remainder of their married life. Throughout the years, Dorothy was employed in housekeeping for area nursing homes, and several businesses within Holdrege until her retirement. On April 11, 1978, she was preceded in death by her husband, Al. Dorothy was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege, where she taught Sunday school for many years. She was also a Camp Fire Girls leader, and served on the board. She loved to organize family reunions, and 4-H activities when the girls were young. Dorothy was very passionate about genealogy, and even traced her family’s history back several generations. In her research, she found ancestry to the Mayflower, and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Dorothy was proud to be the great-granddaughter of John Seberg, her maternal Great-Grandfather from the Civil War, who was the head of the Grand Army Republic (GAR) of Nebraska. She was also a relative of King Clovis, who was the first king of the Franks to embrace Christianity in 496 A.D. Christianity was always very important to Dorothy, and she always mentioned to her entire family, and friends to “Keep God With You.” She loved her family, and the time spent with her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren brought great joy, love, and laughter to her life. Besides her parents, and husband, she was preceded in death by her father-in-law and mother-in-law: Alfred Richmond, Sr. and Ava Evelyn Richmond; and sister-in-law, Myrtle Ruth Young and her husband, Ben. She leaves to celebrate her life; her three daughters: Suzanne Strickland and her husband, James of Holdrege, Brenda Michaud of Superior, Nebraska, and Debbie Dorn and her husband, Wendell of Franklin, Nebraska; eight grandchildren: Yulonda Randall and her husband, Jeremy; Gene Michaud, Jr.; Dustin Richmond and his wife, Millie; Charity Olson and her husband, James; Tessa Kahrs and her husband, Brent; Cody Dorn and his wife, Erica; Jasen Dorn; and Thomas Dorn and his wife, Nicole; twenty great-grandchildren: Theodore and Noah Michaud; Saleta and Lula Randall; Christian, Kylie, Austin, Braedon, and Hailey Richmond; Clayton, Elizabeth, and Blake Olson; Reagan, Hayden, Kenneth, and Weston Kahrs; Riggens Dorn; and Alyssa, Jadyn, and Kaily Dorn; nephews: Charles Young and his wife, Barbara, and Benny Young; a very special friend, Lila Johnson of Holdrege; and a host of other relatives, and friends. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 2, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home The Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege is in charge of the arrangements.
