She was born on April 15, 1924, to Guy H. & Jennie E. (Schroyer) McClanahan in Muscotah, Kansas, where her parents owned a grocery store. She attended Atchison Community High School and business college in Topeka, Kansas. She married George Peabody on May 19, 1946 in Effingham, Kansas. George, a former Assistant District Attorney in Wichita, Kansas, suffered a debilitating stroke at the age of 49 and Dorothy has been his devoted caregiver since.... She was born on April 15, 1924, to Guy H. & Jennie E. (Schroyer) McClanahan in Muscotah, Kansas, where her parents owned a grocery store. She attended Atchison Community High School and business college in Topeka, Kansas. She married George Peabody on May 19, 1946 in Effingham, Kansas. George, a former Assistant District Attorney in Wichita, Kansas, suffered a debilitating stroke at the age of 49 and Dorothy has been his devoted caregiver since. In 1985, at age 61, never having worked outside the home, she went to work for the Oklahoma State Department of Education, where she remained employed until her death. During her employment, she was honored as "Oklahoma's 1999 Outstanding Older Worker" and represented her state at national events in Washington, D.C. On her 80th birthday, Gov. Brad Henry issued a proclamation for "Dorothy Peabody Day". Dorothy was a gifted pianist and played for her church and at City Rescue Mission. She loved to play bridge, paint china, and fashion. She was very creative and loved sharing beautiful things with others. She served as President of the Ladies' Fellowship at Metropolitan Baptist Church, along with numerous other church responsibilities which brought her great joy. She felt a special gift for visiting the people who were facing difficult situations in life. At work, Dorothy was known as "Ms. Perfect" because when asked how she was would reply, "Almost perfect". Her positive attitude, kind and patient nature endeared her to her coworkers. Many will miss this honorable and "almost perfect" friend. Dorothy is survived by her husband, George Peabody, daughter, Patricia Nichols, granddaughter, Bambi Nichols, and three grandchildren, Jayde, Harley and Austin all of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Graveside services and burial will be at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 9, 2010 at the Muscotah Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Metropolitan Baptist Church, 7201 W.
