Description	:	Dorothy Jeanne Manrose, the daughter of Preston Robert and Bessie (Ruddell) Burke was born on May 6, 1923, on the family farm in Atchison County. Dorothy attended school in Rock Port and graduated in 1941. During the war and shortly after graduation Dorothy moved to Kansas City for employment. She returned to Rock Port after the war and met Rex Manrose, who after returning from war, had moved to Rock Port from Riverton, Iowa. Read More	Dorothy Jeanne Manrose, the daughter of Preston Robert and Bessie (Ruddell) Burke was born on May 6, 1923, on the family farm in Atchison County. Dorothy attended school in Rock Port and graduated in 1941. During the war and shortly after graduation Dorothy moved to Kansas City for employment. She returned to Rock Port after the war and met Rex Manrose, who after returning from war, had moved to Rock Port from Riverton, Iowa. Dorothy was united in marriage to Rex on March 26, 1948, at the United Methodist Church in Rock Port by Reverend Peacock. They became the proud parents of two daughters, Cheryl and LuAnn. Dorothy worked outside of the home for most of her married life. She worked in Fairfax for Clare Whitford. In Rock Port, she worked for ASCS Office, Hippo Melvin, Freihofer's Ford Dealership, and Jim Allen Ford Dealership. Later Dorothy was employed by the Missouri Division of Family Services as a case manager. One of her major responsibilities was working with residents at the nursing homes in Rock Port and Tarkio. She did this until her retirement in May 1989. Dorothy attended the United Methodist Church for many years, where she took on many responsibilities including keeping linens clean and ready for use. She enjoyed playing bridge and belonged to the Continental Club, which her daughters thought only existed to color and hide massive amounts of Easter eggs each year. For many years Dorothy also enjoyed being a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Prior to her illness she attended the Christian Church in Rock Port. Throughout her life she was active in Democratic politics, both on the county and state level. She served as the Chairman of the Atchison County Democratic Committee and was also active in many capacities on the Missouri State Democratic Committee. After she retired, she served on the Missouri Silver Haired Legislature. She always enjoyed the opportunities these organizations gave her to participate in many facets of the local and state government. Dorothy worked tenaciously for people and causes, and was not concerned as to whether she was on the popular or winning side. Dorothy waited longer than she would have liked for her 2 granddaughters, Cara and Abby, and they were one of her greatest joys. Many trips were made to Iowa to support their various activities and just as many trips were made to spend time with the granddaughters. On February 20, 2008 Dorothy suffered a debilitating stroke and subsequently became a patient at Pleasant View Nursing Home. December 28, 2010 was the day Dorothy left this world. She passed away at the Pleasant View Nursing Home in Rock Port at age 87. Besides her parents, and her 3 brothers, Francis, Byron and Bob, Dorothy was preceded in death by Rex, her husband of 61 years on September 7, 2009. She is survived by a daughter Cheryl Lindley and her husband, John of Wildwood, Missouri and LuAnn Hood of Bondurant, Iowa; granddaughters, Cara Lindsey Seidl and her husband Kyle of Dallas Center, Iowa, and Abby Beth Hood, currently a student at Northwest Missouri State University and her fiancé John Runde. Services: 1:30 p.m., Friday, January 7, 2011, at Minter Funeral Chapel, Rock Port, Missouri. Inurnment: Riverton Cemetery, Riverton, Iowa.
