Saturday, January 12, 2013 at Grace United Methodist Church, Brooklyn with Pastor Shirley VanDee officiating. Burial will be in Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery, Brooklyn. Dorothy is survived by her husband Richard; four sons, Marvin (Leigh) Hilligas of Ladora, Mark (Trudy) Hilligas of Brooklyn, Lee (Becky) Hilligas of Mesa, AZ, and Lynn (Debbie) Rhinehart of North Liberty; three step-children, Darla (Tim) Ingersoll of Brooklyn, Mark (Kayleen) Rhinehart of Brooklyn, and Steve (Jennifer) Rhinehart of Brooklyn; eight grandchildren, 8 step-grandchildren, and 2 step-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are eight brothers, Charles of Central City, Paul of Grinnell, Keith (Phyllis) of Newton, Duane "Dude" (Pam) of Grinnell, Dean of Grinnell, Roger of Newton, Wesley of Mason City and Henry of Newton; six sisters, Marilyn (Dennis) Starnes of Grinnell, Faye (Jim) Brown of Colfax, Ellen (Robert) McLain of Brooklyn, Diane (Ron) Parker of Kensett, Annabelle Downing of Des Moines and Donna Strachota of Mason City; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Kenny in infancy. Dorothy June McDonald was born June 13, 1945 in Grinnell, Iowa, the daughter of Ernest McDonald and Grace Paul McDonald. She graduated from Grinnell High School in 1962 and married Donald Hilligas. They were blessed with three sons, Marvin, Mark and Lee. They later divorced. She married Richard Rhinehart on January 29, 1973. To this union Lynn was born. Dorothy worked as a waitress at several area businesses, and was employed with Brownell's in Montezuma for 14 years. She enjoyed spending her free time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
