Dorothy was the youngest of 8 children born to George and Josephine (Gotto) Schleis. She was united in marriage to Thomas W Halterman on August 30, 1949. The couple were blessed with 9 children. They farmed east of town for 20 years before moving to town in 1970. Babe was a homemaker and worked part-time at Reinbold Trucking in Mapleton along with her husband. Her greatest pleasure was found spending time with her children and grandchildren. Tom died February 28, 1996. She was a lifetime member of St Mary's Catholic Church in Mapleton. Survivors include her children, Judy Wooster of Mapleton, Bob (Betty) Halterman of Sergeant Bluff, Jane Corley of Langey, South Caroline, Kathy Wacheldorf of Sergeant Bluff, Pat Halterman of Auroro, Colorado, Jackie Clasusen of Anthon and Tom Halterman of New Orleans, Louisiana; 14 grandchildren, Brenda Mace, Jill Wooster, Amy Gideon, Mike Wooster, Tammy Baker, Brandie Halterman, Gerald Tice, Charles Tice, Brian Wacheldorf, Ryan Wacheldorf, Kathryn Halterman, Nicole Haltermena, Kallie Clausen, and Alex Clausen: 15 great grandchildren, Thomas, Andrew and Christopher Mace, Emmalee and Allyson Fannon, Hannah and Haddie Gideon Paige and Ava Wooster, Taylor and Ian Baker, Abbey Halterman, Austin Tice, Cameron and Braden Wacheldorf, and one due in November; her sister Rita Bode of Sergeant Bluff; and five sisters-in-law, Loretta Schleis, Rita Schwartz, Betty Pierson, Dorothy Nicotero and Mary Dickenson and her dear friend, Ruth Hesse. Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Joan; a son, Mike; sons-in-law, Eddie Lee Corley and Paul Clausen; her parents; a sister, Irene (Silven) Rauterkus; 5 brothers, George (Sally), Al, Laurence "White" (Loretta), Leo "Short", and a brother in infancy; brothers-in-law, Carl Bode, Ron Schwartz, Walt Pierson and Nick Nicotero. .
