Description	:	Dorothy Laura Watts, 96, of Iowa City, formerly of Mount Pleasant and Salem, died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Born Dec. 10, 1915, in Henderson County, Ill., near Oquawka, Ill., she was the daughter of Harvey Louis and Reatha Frances Moody Watson. On Sept. 15, 1943, she married Harry Dale Watts in Mount Pleasant. He died Dec. 17, 1999. Mrs. Watts farmed with her husband in Jackson Township in Henry County along old Highway 218. Read More	Dorothy Laura Watts, 96, of Iowa City, formerly of Mount Pleasant and Salem, died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Born Dec. 10, 1915, in Henderson County, Ill., near Oquawka, Ill., she was the daughter of Harvey Louis and Reatha Frances Moody Watson. On Sept. 15, 1943, she married Harry Dale Watts in Mount Pleasant. He died Dec. 17, 1999. Mrs. Watts farmed with her husband in Jackson Township in Henry County along old Highway 218. She worked in the office of physician Sam Houston after finishing high school, and in 1963, she began a 17-year career in the front office at Henry County Health Center, handling everything from the switchboard to admissions and discharges. She moved with her family to a farm in rural Salem near Big Creek at age 3, attended rural country schools and graduated as salutatorian of the Mount Pleasant High School Class of 1934. She and her husband moved to Mount Pleasant in 1990. She was a longtime member of Salem Congregational Church and Salem Congregational Women's Club and taught Sunday school at the church for many years. She was a member of Federated Women's Club, Republican Women, Farm Bureau Women and Women's Club of America. She served as a leader for the Snappy Salemettes 4-H Club and was "instrumental" in the Salem Kitchenette Band. She played piano, read volumes of books and wrote poetry. She enjoyed traveling, and she and her husband visited all 50 states, Canada and Mexico. At age 85, she took a trip to London. She also served as a historian for her family and community. Survivors include one daughter, Diana Guinta of Evanston, Ill.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, her parents and one sister.
