Smith-Luce Monday, January 19, 2015 JEFFERSON — Dorothy Lee Smith Luce, age 85, of Garfield Lane, passed away Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015, in the Hospice Unit of Ashtabula County Medical Center. She was born Oct. 27, 1929, in Buckhannon, W.Va., the daughter of Hilbert and Genevieve (Linger) Ford and had been an Ashtabula resident much of her life. A graduate of Upshur High School, she had been an active member and sang in the church choir of the First Assembly of God/Gateway Church for 44 years. Smith-Luce Monday, January 19, 2015 JEFFERSON — Dorothy Lee Smith Luce, age 85, of Garfield Lane, passed away Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015, in the Hospice Unit of Ashtabula County Medical Center. She was born Oct. 27, 1929, in Buckhannon, W.Va., the daughter of Hilbert and Genevieve (Linger) Ford and had been an Ashtabula resident much of her life. A graduate of Upshur High School, she had been an active member and sang in the church choir of the First Assembly of God/Gateway Church for 44 years. Dorothy enjoyed word puzzles and loved cooking and baking. She was famous for her homemade chicken and dumplings and pumpkin rolls. For years, she took pride in hosting holiday and Sunday dinner for family and friends. She treasured time with her family and loved the precious moments she shared with her many grandchildren. Her survivors include her husband, Fred Luce, whom she married Feb. 14, 2002; seven children, Ginger (Ronald Sr.) Verdi, Stephen (Patricia) Smith, and Penny (Dale) Fako, all of Ashtabula, Roger (Rose) Smith of North Kingsville, Lori Smith-Brummitt and Samantha (Angel Colon) Novak, both of Geneva, and Samandra (Andrew) Nighswander of Ida, Mich.; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a step-daughter, Bonnie (Brad) Cameron of Ashtabula; and two step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Smith in 1994; one granddaughter, Roseanne Smith; one sister, Marjorie Queen; one brother, Jack Ford; and her parents. Calling Hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 20th, at ZABACK-WILLIAMS-DUCRO FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICE, 500 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula. A Service will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 21st, at Gateway Church, 2300 Austinburg Road, Ashtabula, with the Rev. Don Hammer, Pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
