Description	:	Dorothy L. King, 70, a life long resident of Conrad, IA, passed away Monday, August 16, 2010, at her home, under the loving care of her family and Cedar Valley Hospice. Dorothy courageously fought a ten month battle with neuro endocrine brain cancer. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, August 19, 2010, at the BCLUW High School gymnasium in Conrad. Dorothy Lee (Sharp) King was born on August 21, 1939 to Charles and Rosaline (Haynes) Sharp Jr. in Marshalltown, IA. She was raised in the Conrad area, graduating from Conrad High School in 1957. She was united in marriage to Warren King on February 14,1958, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. Dorothy attended AIB School of Business in DesMoines, IA proceeding her graduation and marriage to Warren. Dorothy then began her 50 year banking career at Security Bank in Marshalltown, IA. She then began her 42 year employment with First State Bank in Conrad serving as Senior Vice-President, Cashier, and Trust Officer at the time of her retirement on December 31, 2001. She was elected to the Board of Directors of First State Bank January of 1980 and continued serving in that capacity until August of 2008 when the bank merged into MidWestOne Bank. She was elected to the newly formed Board of Directors of the MidWestOne Bank, Iowa City, IA in August of 2008. Dorothy served her church, the Conrad United Methodist Church of Conrad, the Conrad community, and various other civic and social organizations throughout her life. She was a member or served in various officer positions for the following organizations, the order of Eastern Star, serving as past matron, the Conrad Chamber of Commerce, Grundy County Bankers Association, Conrad Develop Corporation, Conrad Chamber-Main Street, Oakwood Golf Course, Conrad's Wednesday Club, BCLUW Foundation, the Conrad Public Library Foundation, Iowa Bankers Association, and the Conrad Park Board. Dorothy also served as treasurer of the Conrad United Methodist Church for numerous years. Most recently Dorothy was named as honorary Regent President, Spinning Wheel Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Marshalltown, IA Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her six grandchildren attending their various sporting and school events. Her hobbies included genealogy, scrap booking, and traveling with Warren. She was an avid BCLUW Comet fan. Dorothy is survived by her husband of 52 years, Warren, a daughter, Janell King-Squires of Conrad, a son, Jeff (Mary) King of Conrad, her beloved six grandchildren; Beau and Anna Marie Squires, Lauren, Ben, Carter, and Lincoln King, a sister, Debbie (Dennis) Gethmann of Elkhorn, NE, two brothers; Dale (Sarah) Sharp of Omaha, NE, and Dean (LaDonna) Sharp of Conrad, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents. Also left to cherish her memory are numerous cousins, dear family friends, Uncle James (Virginia) Sharp and Aunt Barbara (George) Sharp Hooper, all of Conrad. Memorials in Dorothy's name may be directed to; BCLUW Foundation, Conrad Public Library, Cedar Valley Hospice, or the recently dedicated Dorothy L. King Memorial Park in C/O of Conrad Chamber -Main Street.
