Description	:	Dorothy Louise Jensen was born in Parker on September 6, 1920 to Irvin and Erma J. (Allison) Jensen. She had two sisters, Margaret Elsa Hofer (Emil) and Kathryn Joanne Nelson (Kermit). Dorothy died at Oakview Terrace Nursing Home in Freeman on May 28, 2014, at the age of 93. On May 7, 1942, Dorothy married Mylo J. Dorothy died at Oakview Terrace Nursing Home in Freeman on May 28, 2014, at the age of 93. On May 7, 1942, Dorothy married Mylo J. Preheim in a double wedding ceremony with her sister Kathryn and Kermit Nelson. Dorothy and Mylo had four children: Gregory, Cheryl, Patricia, and Lee. Lee Michael died in 1958 at the age of 41/2 during surgery for a spinal tumor. The Preheims lived in Yankton, Colorado Springs, CO, and then in Sioux Falls until 1943 when they moved to Irene. They made their home there until 1967 when they built a new home in Parker, SD, where they lived until 2008. Before moving to Oakview Terrace in June, 2013, Dorothy resided with her daughter Cheryl and Cheryl's husband, John. Dorothy attended rural schools through eighth grade and then graduated from Hurley High School in 1938. She worked in Sioux Falls for a year before attending Freeman Junior College, where she received her one-year teaching certificate. She began her teaching career in a rural school near Swan Lake, where she taught for two years before she got married. After that she taught for two years in Smith School near Irene. Then came a twelve-year interval during which she enjoyed being a stay-at-home mother. Dorothy returned to teaching in 1957 at Pleasant Valley School with 13 students in 8 grades! Later she taught at Daneville School. During those years she took evening classes and attended summer school until she finished her two-year certificate at Freeman Junior College. From 1962 to 1967 she taught in the primary grades at Irene Public School, and after their move to Parker she taught there until her retirement in 1986. All during these years Dorothy was continuing her education, and in 1971 graduated from the University of South Dakota with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education-the same day her daughter Cheryl received her BFA and her son-in-law John graduated with his Master's. Dorothy and Mylo were avid ballroom dancers. They were members of the Mr. and Mrs. Club at the Arkota Ballroom in Sioux Falls and could be found at many of the ballrooms in a three-state area. Even as a resident of Oakview Terrace, if the music was dance music, Dorothy danced-sometimes with only her walker as a partner. The Dakota Special was another important adventure in Dorothy's life. Her husband Mylo built version one of this train in 1980 and continued to improve it in the years that followed. He and Dorothy took the train to parades and celebrations for more than twenty years. All her years of teaching gave Dorothy just the right skillset to handle all the children. The Dakota Special gave enjoyment to riders at over 400 events in South Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa, and Minnesota. Dorothy was a member of the Salem Mennonite (South) Church of Freeman but also attended the First Presbyterian Church in Parker. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Mylo, in 2011, her parents, her siblings, and her son Lee Michael. She is survived by Greg (Theresa) Preheim of Irene, Cheryl (John) Koch of Freeman, Patricia (Harry) Batcheller of Yankton. and six grandchildren: Heath and Ashley Preheim, Kristin Koch and Laura Gray (Justin), and Jill and Jay Batcheller.
