She was born February 9, 1920 the daughter of Gordon and Ella Glee (Campbell) Overman. She attended area schools and graduated from the Columbus high School. On December 24, 1941 she was united in marriage to James Lyman Pender in Labette City, KS; he preceded her in death on December 9, 2007. On December 24, 1941 she was united in marriage to James Lyman Pender in Labette City, KS; he preceded her in death on December 9, 2007. Louise worked for the U.S.D.#247 at West Mineral as the head cook and Food Coordinator for 14 years. She was a former resident of rural Hallowell and rural McCune, KS. Church membership was held at the Friendship Church, she was also involved in the Friendship Missionary Society and the Sheridan FCE for 65 + years. She was also a Sheridan 4H Project Leader for many years. Survivors include a son James Lee (Rosemary) Pender of McCune, a daughter Ann (Tom) Thiele of Columbus; a sister Norma Barnes of Welch, OK; grandchildren: Mindi (David) Eddington, Brian (Misti) Thiele, Jenifer (Mike) Yuza, and Erin (Grant) Lindal; great grandchildren: Samuel, Will & Jacob Eddington, Derek & Hayden Yuza, Lily & Lucy Thiele and Brooklyn & Cheyenne Lindal; along with several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, a son Robert Dale Pender, a daughter Gayle Louise Pender, five brothers Wayne, Leroy, David, Ben & Gilbert Overman. Funeral services will be 2 pm Tuesday, June 16, 2015 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Columbus with Rev. Dennis Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Friendship Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 pm Monday evening. Condolences may be left at www.bathnaylor.com. He was born January 13, 1920 in rural Hallowell, KS the son of James Carl and Mary Ethelinda (Hill) Pender. He attended area schools. On December 24, 1941 he was united in marriage to Louise Overman in Labette City, KS, she survives him of Columbus. James was a veteran of WWII entering in October of 1942 and was honorably discharged in December of 1945 with the rank of Corporal T5. He was a farmer for 70 years and also a heavy Equipment operator for the Cherokee County Highway Dept. for 28 years, retiring in December of 1985. He was a member of the Friendship Church. Additional memberships were held with the Farm Bureau, AARP, the American Legion Post #3 of Columbus and the VFW Post # 3399 of Oswego. Survivors include his wife Dorothy Louise Pender who resides at the Autumn Place in Columbus, KS; a son James L. Pender of McCune, KS; a daughter Ann M. Thiele of Columbus 5 grandchildren: Mindi Eddington, Brian Thiele, Jennifer Yuza, Rob Pender and Erin E. Pender and 6 Great Grandchildren: Samuel, William and Jacob Eddington and Derek and Hayden Yuza, Lily Thiele and Rosali Rennie. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Gayle Louise Pender, and a son Robert Dale Pender and a sister Geneva Epler. Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday December 13, 2007 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Columbus with Rev. Dennis Johnson Officiating. Burial will follow in the Friendship Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7-8 p.m. Wednesday. Friends may also call at their convenience after 2 p.m. Wednesday. Condolences may be left at www.bathnaylor.com. Memorials may be left to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and/or the Friendship Cemetery Fund. These may be left at or mailed to the funeral home.
