Description	:	Dorothy Lucille Erhardt Barker, 82, passed away at Kavanaugh House on 56th following a battle with cancer, on Friday, November 9, 2007. Dorothy Lucille was born November 27, 1924 on a farm near Milton, Iowa to Carlyle Ludwig and Emma Laura Lindsay Erhardt. She attended school in Troy, Iowa and married Max DeWayne Barker on June 19, 1943. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, an infant son, Max Frederick, sisters – Margaret Martin, Miriam Josephine Wilson, and brothers – Julius Lindsay, and William Maxwell Erhardt. Dorothy Lucille was born November 27, 1924 on a farm near Milton, Iowa to Carlyle Ludwig and Emma Laura Lindsay Erhardt. She attended school in Troy, Iowa and married Max DeWayne Barker on June 19, 1943. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, an infant son, Max Frederick, sisters – Margaret Martin, Miriam Josephine Wilson, and brothers – Julius Lindsay, and William Maxwell Erhardt. Dorothy Lucille retired at 70 after a 27 year career at Iowa Lutheran Hospital working in Behavioral Health. Family and friends considered her the World's Best Cook, and continue to enjoy her cookbook "Grandma's Kitchen" written especially for them. She loved gardening, flowers, fruits and vegetables. She canned, preserved and loved to share the produce. She was an avid reader and enjoyed hosting a book club for her friends, where books were seldom mentioned. She was a bird watcher/feeder and lover of nature. She was an amazing woman who will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her four daughters – (Dot) Dorothy Jean (Blair) Mattson-Reid, Diana Jo (Richard) Latch, Sarah Frances Barker, and Margo Lynn Barker, by her sister Amelia Clare (Leo) Maiers and brother, Carl Frederick (Marcille) Erhardt, sisters-in-law Frances Fenton, Betty Erhardt, and Florence Erhardt, brother-in-law Glen Dean Barker, 13 grandchildren, 12 great grand-children, and many nieces and nephews, all very much loved and treasured. We're sure she'll be in attendance when expected great-grand twin girls join the family sometime in January, 2008. Dorothy Lucille was a wise and wonderful woman, sometimes feared, always revered. Family will host friends at a "Gathering" and memorial service in the Community Center in Mitchellville, Iowa on Thursday, November 15th beginning at 4PM. Memorial contributions may be made to Union Park United Methodist Church or in her name for a gold leaf on the "Tree of Life" at the Hospice Kavanaugh House on 56th.
