She graduated from Pomeroy High School as Salutatorian in 1937, and attended St. Luke's Hospital School in Spokane, WA. Dorothy graduated from St. Luke's School of Nursing on August 14, 1940, and went to work on the staff of the Shiner's Hospital for Crippled Children in Spokane. Dorothy joined the Navy Nurse Corps during WWII; stationed in Seattle and Shoemaker, CA for the duration of that war. She married Phil Wainscott in Pomeroy on June 24, 1946. They moved to Columbus, OH, where Phil completed his Master's degree in genetics, and then on to Lincoln, NE where they lived unti1 1952. In the summer of 1952, Phil and Dorothy moved back to Waterville where she worked at Douglas County Memorial Hospital until it closed. She and Phil continued to farm until they retired in 1982. They spent their remaining years traveling, enjoying their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and especially each other, until Phil's death in 2004. Dorothy is survived by three daughters, Penney (Ron) Tee, Terri (Randy) Brandt, and Cindy Wainscott; four grandchildren, Stephanie Tee, Jeff Tee, David Brandt, Jared Brandt; and five great-grandchildren, Carter Mills, Carson Tee, Hayden Mills, Annika Tee, and Addison Mills. Dorothy was a member of the Waterville Federated Church, Women in the Military Service Association, Chapter Z of PEO, Harmony Chapter #56 OES, and El Karnak Temple Daughters of the Nile. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Phil Wainscott; three sisters, Mary, Wilma and Berdina; and parents, Alpha Rebecca Cook Mack and James Louis Mack. Dorothy was a hardworking and loving mother and wife who always gave completely of herself to anyone and any cause she deemed worthy. Dorothy was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a staunch patriot and supporter of the United States, which was a source of great pride for her. She enjoyed life with her husband, her children, and her friends, and did everything she could to make their lives rich. Farming with her husband was one of the deepest joys in her life. Dorothy was a gentle and caring nurse, a loving and nurturing mother and wife, and a dedicated community person whose absence will be acutely felt in Waterville for many years. She cherished her membership in PEO, and was the musician in the local Eastern Star chapter for the better part of 50 years. Her sense of humor and work ethic were treasured by everyone who knew her, and she was loved by all with whom she worked. Dorothy will be sorely missed by her friends and her community, and most of all by her family, who loved her so very much. She is in the hands of the Lord now, healed and at peace, together again with her beloved Phil. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, November 27, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at the Federated Church in Waterville. The family suggests memorials be made to the Waterville Swimming Pool Fund, Badger Mountain Ski Hill Fund, or the Waterville Federated Church. Waterville Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
