She grew up on the family ranch in the Boulder Valley and graduated from Jefferson County High School in 1951. On Nov. 10, 1956, she married the love of her life, William "Bill" Walling. Dorothy was born May 24, 1932, in Boulder to James and Margaret McGowan. She grew up on the family ranch in the Boulder Valley and graduated from Jefferson County High School in 1951. On Nov. 10, 1956, she married the love of her life, William "Bill" Walling. Together they had two daughters, Mary and Laurie. They lived in Seattle until returning home to Montana in 1960 where they built their home and raised their girls. Dorothy began working for the Montana Highway Patrol in October 1961; she was supervisor of the Driver Improvement Bureau for many years, and retired in 1994 as a driver examiner. Dorothy and Bill enjoyed traveling — whether it be cruising, flying or in their motorhome — they toured different countries and all but five states. They enjoyed snowmobiling from the early 1970s until 1996 when they started wintering in Yuma. Dorothy was a member of the West Helena Valley Volunteer Fire Auxillary. She enjoyed ceramics, crafting, crocheting and sewing. Dorothy is survived by her loving husband, Bill; her daughters, Mary Goyins of Helena and Laurie Eisenzimer of Conrad; four grandchildren, Cally Goyins and Travis Nichols of Helena, and Tyler and Ryan Eisenzimer of Conrad. Also surviving are her brother, Jim (Peg) McGowan and her sister, Florence (Gale) Jerome, all of Helena. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Pat McGowan. Memorial services will be held at Retz Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, June 1, at 1 p.m., with burial to follow at the Montana State Veterans Cemetery at Fort Harrison. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of St. Peter's, 2475 Broadway, Helena, MT 59601.
