Born on January 12, 1922 in Middletown, she was the daughter of Herman and Geneva Fern (Keller) Prehm. She married Melvin E. Gerdner on July 28, 1946. He passed away in 1999. She was a 1939 graduate of Danville High School and attended Burlington Business College. As a young lady, Dorothy drove a team of horses for her father. She worked at the Des Moines County Courthouse and Burlington Bank & Trust before her marriage and was a homemaker. She was a member of Oakville United Methodist Church. She was past treasurer for the national United Methodist Women and she was very involved in the local chapter. She worked with the youth group and taught Sunday school and was very active with her church. She was a fantastic cook, a fantastic mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. She was an avid vegetable gardener and loved to travel. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son Ronald Gerdner, son -in-law Larry Wallace and one sister Mary Smith.
