Facey Services were held on Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2010 for longtime Etna resident Dorothy Facey. Services were held on Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2010 for longtime Etna resident Dorothy Facey. Dorothy was born in Flat Rock, Ill. to V. P. Baker [ Vernon K. Vurmal Presly Baker] and Bertha [Leona] (McColpin) Baker and moved to California when she was 8 years old. Dorothy attended Modesto High School and Etna High School. She was living in Sawyers Bar and boarded out to high school in Etna. After high school while attending a dance, Dorothy met her future husband and her lifetime love John Joseph (Joe) Facey. Joe was the drummer in the band at the dance. They were married for 55 years. Dorothy and Joe ran Etna Market for many years before Joe retired, but Dorothy also worked for Aylene's Dress Shop in Etna and the Scott Valley Drug Store before she retired. Dorothy is survived by her son John Facey and his wife Kathy of Napa; her daughter Marla Stalica and her husband Chip of Palo Cedro; her granddaughters Mindy and Trista of the Santa Barbara area; and her sister Novella Young and her husband Bill of Weaverville; as well as many cousins and friends. Dorothy was very active in the Scott Valley Berean Church and her community. She was on the board of Friends of the Library, involved with Scott Valley Quilters, worked at the elementary school book sales, was on the board of Christian Women for many years, helped with Awana, did her church's card ministry, helped cook and serve at the senior citizen's lunch at her church, and many other service activities. Dorothy loved to help others, gardening, reading, quilting and spending time with those she loved. She had a passion for Bible study. Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved husband Joe and her brother Norman Baker. Dorothy was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and sister, and she was a trusted and loyal friend. Dorothy told one of her doctors how much she had to do and he said, "Yes, I know I need to get you out of here or the whole north state will fall apart!" She will be missed more than we can say.
