Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all who plan to attend both the visitation and services are asked to consider wearing a mask and practice social distancing within groups. Dorothy Mae Ferguson was born November 27, 1926, in Linn County, the daughter of Ralph and Hazel (Grassfield) Ferguson. She graduated from Mechanicsville High School with the Class of 1944. She married Roland Curtis Herring on November 22, 1950, at USNAB Little Creek, Virginia, where Roland was serving in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Following his discharge from service, they farmed in Cedar County, northwest of Tipton. She was also employed as a secretary for Farm Bureau in Tipton, until she retired. Roland preceded her in death on November 14, 1998. Surviving are two daughters, Janet Dierks of Clarence and Susan (Brent) Wiederhoeft of Mechanicsville; one son, Robert (Kathryn) Herring of Mechanicsville; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Lois Rau of Naples, FL. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son-in-law, Duane Dierks, one granddaughter, Sarah Dierks, one grandson, Scott Dierks and one sister, Ruth Peterson. Fry Funeral Home
