Description	:	Dorothy Mae Drake, 91, of Waubay, SD passed away on Thursday, March 15, 2012 at a care center in Webster, SD. She was the widow of Leslie Drake. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the New Helgen Lutheran Church, Florence, SD. Rev. Gary Anderson will officiate. Burial will be in Dexter Cemetery, rural Florence. Pallbearers will be Dorothy's grandchildren. Dorothy was born on October 31, 1920 in Day County, SD to Richard C. and Alma M. (Dahley) Knudson. She attended rural school in Day County and graduated from high school in Florence, SD. She attended one year at Northern State Teacher's College and then taught for a short time in rural schools in Day and Codington Counties. She married Leslie Drake on February 27, 1943 in Redfield, SD. The couple farmed in Egeland Township, Day County. Besides teaching and raising her family, Dorothy was a teacher's aide and secretary at Waubay School until her retirement. The couple lived on the farm until they moved into Watertown in 1998. In 2003, the couple moved to Country View Assisted Living in Florence. Leslie and Dorothy moved to Milbank, SD in 2004 and Leslie passed way in November of 2004. In 2009, Dorothy moved to Bethesda Nursing Home in Webster. Dorothy was a member of Helgen Lutheran Church where she was active in Circle. She especially enjoyed being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening, especially her flower garden and her yard, quilting, sewing, and the Busy Bees Extension Club. She is survived by her children: Deborah (Loren) Reiprich of Webster, SD, Milton Drake of Sioux Falls, SD, and Merlyn (Bonnie) Drake of Bellingham, MN; eleven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one brother, Harvey (Virginia) Knudson of Watertown, SD. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one sister, and five brothers. Memorials may be directed to the Dexter or Helgen Cemeteries.
