Description	:	Dorothy M. Lanik, age 77 of Bridgeport died Thursday, September 16, 2010 at her home in Bridgeport. Memorial Services will be at 10 AM on Tuesday September 21, 2010 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Bridgeport with Pastor Allen Strawn officiating. Inurnment will follow at Oregon Trail Memorial Cemetery near Bridgeport. As per Dorothy's wishes, cremation has taken place. Jolliffe Funeral Home of Bridgeport is assisting Dorothy's family with arrangements. Dorothy was born July 23, 1933 in Mead, NE to William and Florence (Hubbard) Peters. She received her education from the Wahoo Public Schools graduating in 1951. She married Ray Lanik on July 12, 1953 in Wahoo, NE and to this union four children were born. After living briefly in Albuquerque, NM while Ray was in the U.S. Army, they returned to Wahoo. In 1964 they moved to Bridgeport where she worked as a telephone operator and several other jobs. She began working in the Morrill County Clerk's office in 1973. In 1987 she was appointed Morrill County Clerk, Register of Deeds, and Election Commissioner. She held this position until she retired in 1996. Dorothy was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and had previously belonged to the Panhandle County Clerks, Register of Deeds and Election Commissioner, Nebraska Association of County Officials, Bridgeport Eagle Auxiliary, Wahoo VFW Auxiliary, and Bridgeport Lions Club. Dorothy was also an avid sports fan, especially when following her beloved Bridgeport Bulldogs, Alliance Bulldogs, Hemingford Bobcats, Nebraska Huskers, and Denver Broncos. She is survived by her son Tim (Cindy) Lanik of Hemingford, NE; daughter Teri (Doug) West of Omaha, NE; and son-in-law Arnold Lopez of North Platte, NE; grandsons Brian (Erin) West of Houston, TX and Nate (Jenny) Lanik of Alliance, NE; granddaughters Sara (Adam) Breed of St. Louis, MO, Lindsey (Jeff) Burback of Sioux City, IA, Megan West of Denver, CO, Abby (Quinton) Day, Robyn Lopez, and Lauren Lopez all of North Platte, NE; great grandchildren Joren, Jexsen, and Aeralynn Day; Isaac Breed; Micaiah and Audriana; Espen Lanik; and Addalai and Brogan Burback; sister Donna Swoboda of Wahoo, NE; brother Ron (Janet) of Fremont, NE; and many nieces and nephews Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Ray in 2006; son Tom in 1983; daughter Tami Lopez in 2008; her parents, and a brother Wayne.
