She was raised and educated in the area, graduating from Greeley High School in 1931. Dorothy was united in marriage to Harvey "Pete" Schenke on October 8, 1932, in Galena, Illinois. Together they farmed near Greeley and Colesburg. Dorothy was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking, gardening, crocheting, piano, and raising chickens on the farm. They retired to Edgewood in 1981. Dorothy died on Tuesday, August 5, 2008, at the Edgewood Convalescent Home following an extended illness. She was ninety-four years of age. Survivors include one daughter, Jeaninne (Lowell) Phelps of Colesburg and her sister-in-law, Violet Schenke of Guttenberg. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey "Pete" Schenke on January 5, 1983; her parents; one brother, Lawrence Smith; and a sister-in-law, Wylla Smith
