Dorothy was born on January 22, 1911 to Winfred E. and Margaret (Rice) Whittemore in Estelline, SD. She graduated from Estelline High School in 1920. She graduated from South Dakota State College in 1932 and taught school in Hayti, Clear Lake, Huron and Watertown. Dorothy was born on January 22, 1911 to Winfred E. and Margaret (Rice) Whittemore in Estelline, SD. She graduated from Estelline High School in 1920. She graduated from South Dakota State College in 1932 and taught school in Hayti, Clear Lake, Huron and Watertown. She finished her teaching career of 39 years as the librarian at Watertown High School in 1974. She married Harry B. Goose of Rochester, New York on August 5, 1945. They both taught school in Watertown. Dorothy was always very proud of the fact that they built their own home in Watertown even though they were busy teachers. They attended summer schools and traveled extensively in the United States and abroad. Harry passed away in 1983. Dorothy married Jacob E. Krull in 1990 and inherited a whole new family of step children and their sons and daughters to enjoy. They liked apartment living and traveling. Jacob passed away in 1999. Dorothy was a lifelong member of the Congregational Church and during her younger years was active in the Congregational Conference camps as a dean of girls, counselor, and music leader. She was always active in her church and the Women's Fellowship. At one time or another she served on almost every church board and was Chairman of the Board of Directors and then church moderator. Wherever she lived and taught, she was a church choir member or director. She belonged to the Watertown Monday Music Club for over 30 years. She played the cello in the college orchestra and at Music Club. She was a life member of the Bramble Park Zoo, the Kempeska Heritage Museum, a Delta Kappa Gamma Society member for over 30 years and an Eastern Star member since 1938. She was an avid gardener. At the age of 89, she wrote and published a Whittemore family history and her own biography. She was a great benefactor to SDSU in both contributions and music scholarships. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; and three brothers. She is survived by her five step children and their families, Darlene (Norman) Olson of Dayton, OH, Darrell (Marilyn) Krull of Prescott, AZ, Irene (Vince) Vitullo of Chicago, IL, Jake (Phyllis) Krull of Watertown, SD, and Mary Ann (William) Ricker ofNorth Stonington, CT; her nephew, Bob (Mariem) Whittemore of Rapid City; her sister-in-law, Helen Whittemore of Custer; three nieces and nephews; five grand nieces and nephews; and many great grand nieces and nephews. A graveside service and burial will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2008 at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Estelline, SD. A Memorial Service was held on January 6, 2007 at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Watertown. Arrangements by Wight, Comes and Sogn Funeral Chapel at Watertown.
