Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa. Dorothy Marie Bolte was born December 23, 1918, in Perry Township, in Jackson County, the daughter of A.C. and Alice Ezietta (Fuller) Bolte. She attended country school and graduated from Andrew High School. She was united in marriage to Elvin R. Kelchner on April 8, 1946, in Des Moines. He died on February 19, 1975. She married Melvin L. Dorothy Marie Bolte was born December 23, 1918, in Perry Township, in Jackson County, the daughter of A.C. and Alice Ezietta (Fuller) Bolte. She attended country school and graduated from Andrew High School. She was united in marriage to Elvin R. Kelchner on April 8, 1946, in Des Moines. He died on February 19, 1975. She married Melvin L. Kelchner on June 16, 1979, at the United Methodist Church in Maquoketa. He died on June 15, 1983. Dorothy was a clerk at Graham's Department Store in Maquoketa for many years. In earlier years, she was an Ammunition Inspector during World War II in Utah, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., and Savanna, Ill. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa, where she was a Sunday school instructor. She was a lifetime member of the Maquoketa VFW Ladies Auxiliary and American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, and a member of Jackson County Historical and Genealogical Society. She is survived by her daughter, Kristie (Robert) Eaton of Maquoketa; two stepsons, Jon Steven Kelchner and Earle D. Kelchner, both of Mechanicsville, Virginia; two grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Elaine Wier of Davenport; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husbands, her parents, and two sisters, Bonnie Turner and Betty Swieter.
