Description	:	Dorothy Marie Lanfear, 86, of Grand Island died on July 28, 2010, at the Grand Island Veterans Home. Dorothy was born on Dec. 20, 1923, at Pawnee City to Guy an d Gladys (Perdew) Stone. She married Bruce Lanfear on Nov. 2, 1949. Bruce passed away, June 11, 1951. Survivors are: son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Mary Lanfear of Grand Island; brother, Edward Stone of Stamford; grandchildren, James and Michelle Lanfear, Evangeline "Angie" Lanfear and her fiancé', Charles "Bill" Fletcher, and Jennell and Jeff Campbell; and great-grandchildren, Mikayla, Lilyana, Sierra, Jace and Jax and a host of friends and relatives. Dorothy was born on Dec. 20, 1923, at Pawnee City to Guy an d Gladys (Perdew) Stone. She married Bruce Lanfear on Nov. 2, 1949. Bruce passed away, June 11, 1951. Survivors are: son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Mary Lanfear of Grand Island; brother, Edward Stone of Stamford; grandchildren, James and Michelle Lanfear, Evangeline "Angie" Lanfear and her fiancé', Charles "Bill" Fletcher, and Jennell and Jeff Campbell; and great-grandchildren, Mikayla, Lilyana, Sierra, Jace and Jax and a host of friends and relatives. Dorothy was raised in Pawnee City, Logan, Arnold and Broken Bow, graduating from Broken Bow High School in 1942. She entered the United States Navy on Jan. 27, 1944, serving during World War II. She was honorably discharged on Feb. 1, 1946. Following the military, she went to nursing training at Lincoln General, graduating in 1949. She was a registered nurse. Following her husband's death, she moved to Broken Bow, where she worked at a doctor's office and the Broken Bow Hospital. She then went to work for the Grand Island Veterans Administration Hospital for 26 years, retiring in 1986. Dorothy was a member of the First Baptist Church, American Legion and Retired Federal Employees. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, quilting, flower gardens, China painting and spending time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Lucile Brown and Elizabeth Hanneman. Published in The Grand Island Independent on 8/7/2010
