Visitation with the family present will be 3 to 8 p.m. today at Barker Funeral Home in Holstein. Dorothy Martha Wilhelmina Thompson was born Jan. 24, 1918 in New Milford Township, Ill. to William and Lydia (Schoenbeck) Wahl. She grew up in Chicago and Lindenwood, Ill. On Feb. 6, 1943, Dorothy married Clarence J Thompson of Dunlap. At the end of World War II, they settled in Iowa where they raised their family and enjoyed 60 years of marriage. Dorothy was an avid gardener, a great cook, always active in her church and loved playing cards. She was a charter member of Siouxland Mended Hearts, an American Legion auxiliary member and an active volunteer at the Correctionville Nursing Home and Camp Okoboji. Dorothy is survived by her husband, Clarence; two daughters and their husbands, Beverly and Don Schrader of Cheyenne, Wyo. and Betty and Dean Grotjohn of Apple Valley, Minn.; a son and his wife, Jene and Dot Thompson of Nashville, Tenn.; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother and his wife, Art and Cynthia Wahl; and a sister-in-law, Delores Wahl.
