Read More	BETHEL, VERMONT Dorothy (Griffin) Day of Bethel, Vermont, passed away on December 27, 2017, from the effects of long term memory loss that progressed to Alzheimer's disease. Dorothy was born December 29, 1931, in Burlington, Vermont, the daughter of Wilbur and Bertha (Tarbell) Griffin. She moved to Bethel, Vermont with her family at a young age. She met and married Russell Day in 1949. They lived on the Day farm in Randolph Center for 2 or 3 years. Then moved to Amherst, Massachusetts, where they lived for a couple of years. The next move took them to Hartland, Vermont, where they lived until July of 1964. Their next adventure took them across country to Simi Valley, California, where they lived and worked until their retirement in 1978. From there they went to Chiloquin, Oregon, where they lived until Russell passed away in November of 1995. A couple of years later, Dorothy returned to Bethel, Vermont. She was a nurses aide for the last 25 years of her working years (working at Hanover Hospital in Vermont, a nursing home in Canoga Park, California, and finally at Simi Valley Hospital in Simi Valley, California). She loved helping people and crocheting blankets or afghans for anyone that needed or wanted one. She is survived by four children. Dorothy was the oldest of the 12 Griffin children and is survived by eight brothers and sisters and some of their spouses. She leaves 17 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Russell Day, her youngest daughter Roma Zamora, her sister Beulah Lanpher, and her brother Leo Griffin. Dorothy will be buried in the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery, next to her beloved Russell, next year. It's interesting to note that this cemetery is located on land that at one time belonged to Russell's family when he was young. Therefore, her final resting place will be where she started her married life. Donations to the American Cancer Society (She was a cancer survivor) or to the Mountain View Assisted Living facility in Vershire, Vermont (where she was lovingly cared for during the last 6 years of her life) would be appreciated in lieu of flowers. Arrangements are by the Day Funeral Home in Randolph.
