Description	:	Dorothy Schweinefus Funeral services for Dorothy Schweinefus were held Saturday, January 4, 1997, at 11:00 a.m. in the Zion Lutheran Church at Castalia, Iowa. The Reverend Ken Seney officiated. Special music was provided by Shirley Brainard and Marlys Hager, the organist. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Interment was in the Pleasant View Cemetery at Castalia. Dorothy Mildred (Janke) Schweinefus, the daughter of Henry and Gladys (Young) Jahnke, was born June 2, 1916, near Frankville, Iowa. Interment was in the Pleasant View Cemetery at Castalia. Dorothy Mildred (Janke) Schweinefus, the daughter of Henry and Gladys (Young) Jahnke, was born June 2, 1916, near Frankville, Iowa. She passed away Tuesday, December 31, 1996, at her home in Castalia, Iowa, after a sudden illness. She had reached the age of 80 years, 6 months and 29 days. She attended the rural school near her home. On January 27, 1934, she was married to Otto John Schweinefus. To this union, seven children were born. Dorothy and Otto farmed together in the Castalia area for most of their lives. Dorothy lived in Castalia after her retirement. She took great pride in her house and yard. She loved flowers and had an abundance of them both outside and in the house, and they all flourished under her care. Her lawn was immaculate and she trusted on one else to mow and care for it. She was also famous for "wild" cookies and made the world's best bean soup. Dorothy loved to knit and crochet, making hundreds of afghans, doilies, tablecloths, caps and scarves. She was preceded in death by her husband, Otto, who died February 2, 1982, 3 brothers, Lester and Walter Jahnke, and a brother Robert, who died in infancy, one sister, Florence (Mrs. Don) Redenbaugh and a great grandson, Christian Thomas. Surviving are her children, two sons, Jerry Schweinefus and wife, Karen, of Mountain View, AR, and Bradley Schweinefus of Minneapolis, five daughters: Carol and husband, Robert Roche, of Wilmington, MA, Norma and husband, Richard Schlee, of Postville, IA, Laurie and husband, John Thomas, of Kansas City, MO, Ann Thomas of Decorah, IA, and Shirley Taylor of Milpitas, CA; 18 grandchildren, Maureen Lake, June Ann Scott, Joseph Roche, Steven Roche, Linda Anderson, Vicki Donohue, Robyn Jarmes, Christopher Schlee, Heidi Smith, Kevin Schweinefus, Vince Schweinefus, Randal Thomas, Rebecca Thomas, Greg Marting, Corey Marting, Timothy Kesemann, Tammy Kesemann; 25 great grandchildren, Amanda Scott, Kristen Lake, Sharon Lake, Misty Anderson, Jake Anderson, Nickolas Donohue, Dylan Donohue, Cody Jarmes, Seth Schlee, Reed Schlee, Paige Schlee, Zane Schlee, Veronica Schweinefus, Klye Schweinefus, Tyler Schweinefus, Ryan Thomas, Eric Thomas, Dana Thomas, Megan Thomas, Ian Marting, Danika Marting, Cody Marting, Tristan Kesemann, Mark Boeschen, and Jessica Boeschen. Also surviving are four sisters, Lucille Leubka, Inez Schutte and Gladys and husband, Frank Atkinson, all of Dubuque, IA, and Pearl and husband, Elwin Hanneman, of Cedar Falls, IA, and a sister-in-law, Virginia Jahnke, of Dubuque, IA. Dorothy was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia and the Women of the ELCA and also a member of the Tuesday Club. Casket bearers were Christopher Schlee, Andy Smith, David Anderson, Tim Kesemann, Kendal Jarmes, Terry Kesemann and Dave Boeschen. Postville Herald newspaper
