She was born December 28, 1924 at Olds, Iowa, the daughter of Ira and Ethel Hough Owens. She graduated from the Olds High School with the class of 1942. Read More	Bates Funeral Chapel Obituary Dorothy Ballinger, 84, of Oskaloosa, died Sunday, May 3, 2009, at the Mahaska Hospital, Oskaloosa. She was born December 28, 1924 at Olds, Iowa, the daughter of Ira and Ethel Hough Owens. She graduated from the Olds High School with the class of 1942. On May 9, 1943, she was married to George Kime, and to this union was born two sons, Steven and Jerry Kime. George died March 17, 1960. She was united in marriage to Gerrit "Cookie" DeKock on February 28, 1963, and Cookie died March 28, 1983. Dorothy had been the head cook at the Hedrick schools, and later was a waitress in several Oskaloosa restaurants including Boston's Café and Calhoun Diner. She was owner and cook for the ‘Chuck Wagon' in Oskaloosa, and also bookkeeper for her husband's business, O K Body Shop. On August 10, 1985, she was united in marriage to George Ballinger in the Little Brown Church at Nashua, Iowa. She enjoyed watching sports, and in her early years, fishing, cooking, and playing cards. Dorothy was a member of the First Christian Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Auxiliary of the Fleet Reserve. Her family includes her husband, George Ballinger of Oskaloosa; two sons and their wives: Steven and Connie Kime and Jerry and Shirley Kime, all of Oskaloosa; three grandchildren: Bryan (Becky) Kime, Jeff (Karissa) Kime, and Jay (Carol) Kime; five great grandchildren: Leanna, Katelyn, Jacobs, Cody, and Kaylee. She is also survived by four stepdaughters; many nieces and nephews, and special friends, Richard and Patricia McCulley. Besides her two husbands, Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; a brother: Virgil Owens and two sisters: Mildred Gipple and Donna McKeever. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 7, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel with the Reverend Michael Omundson officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery, Oskaloosa. Open visitation will begin at the funeral chapel on Wednesday after 11 a.m. Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church, Oskaloosa.
