She was preceded in death by her husband; a sister, Arlene Fanton; and two brothers, Theodore "Scoot" Strand and Carleton "Sip" Strand. Dorothy was born the daughter of Theodore and Gladys Wallace Strand on Oct. 20, 1907, in Gilman, Iowa. She graduated from Newburg High School in 1927, and married Norris "Snipe" Lovig on April 7, 1932, in Princeton, Mo. They farmed all their working years, first in State Center, then near Marion. In the early 1950s, they settled in Whittier, Iowa, where they farmed until retirement. Though they had no children of their own, Dorothy and Snipe raised Dorothy's brother, Carleton, from the time he was 11 years old. They doted lovingly on their many nephews, nieces, great-nephews, and great-nieces. Dorothy was an active member of Springville United Methodist Church as long as her health permitted. She sang in the choir, played in the bell choir, and served her church in many capacities.
