Memorial services will be at 2:00 pm Thursday, February 22, 2018 at O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home. Pastor David McDonald will officiate. Burial will be at a later date. Pastor David McDonald will officiate. Burial will be at a later date. Dorothy Phyllis Colson was born on September 24, 1926 in Hayes County to Alva E. and Nettie (Hayward) Colson. She graduated from Wauneta High School in 1944. Following high school, she attended cosmetology school at Hastings Beauty Academy. Dorothy was united in marriage to Mike Gerih in 1945. They made their home in Hayes Center, Nebraska where she owned and operated Dorothy’s Beauty Shop for 30 years. Mr. Gerih preceded her in death in 1970. Dorothy moved to Kearney where she worked at West Company and ABC Drug. She was united in marriage to Larry Medley on August 30, 1975 in Kearney. Together they operated Medley’s Garden for 19 years. She was a member of Redeemer Baptist Church and the Community Theatre. Dorothy enjoyed collecting antiques, as well as attending auctions, plays and concerts with Larry. Dorothy is survived by her husband Larry Medley of Kearney; son, David Gerih of McCook; stepchildren, Vicki Blackburn, Theresa Ippalito and Troy Medley; four grandchildren, including Cody Gerih of Kearney, Kent Gerih and wife Erin of McCook and Shannon Gerih and wife Teresa of McCook; four great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and a sister, Diane Sturm of Fairbury. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Mike Gerih; a son, Steven Gerih; a sister, Audrey Fuqua; and a brother, James Colson.
