Dorothy was born June 4, 1916, in Hannover, to John and Elsa (Götze) Woehler. She was raised and educated in Hannover, North Dakota where her parents homesteaded. In her younger years, she worked at Allen Bradley factory in Milwaukee, as a telephone operator in Chicago, as a nanny and cleaned houses with her sister in Wisconsin. On June 10, 1944, she married Sigurd Lovold in Pewaukee, Wisconsin. They farmed and raised their family in the Center area where Dorothy taught Sunday School at St. Peter's Lutheran and St. Paul's Lutheran churches. She was active in Ladies' Aid, Oliver County Homemakers and church choirs. Dorothy and Sigurd moved into Center in 1964. Dorothy was a great cook and her Saturday baking day produced wonderful dinner buns, kuchen and pies and often invited friends over for coffee to enjoy those goodies. Sunday dinners were usually shared with good friends or family and she always had food on the table at every meal for the family. As a young person, she had aspirations to be a nurse, which weren't fulfilled as she raised her family but eventually she did volunteer work as a Gray Lady, commuting from Center to Bismarck to help at nursing homes there. When Dorothy spent time with her three sisters, family and friends enjoyed their dry or even sometimes ‘wicked' sense of humor which was inherited from their father John, a side of Dorothy typically not readily visible. Sigurd and Dorothy retired in 1975 and moved to Bismarck in 1990. They were avid bridge players, and even before moving to Bismarck joined the Sons of Norway where they performed regularly with the Norwegian dancers. During retirement both Sigurd and Dorothy traveled to each coast, and spent seven winters in Weslaco, Texas, volunteered at the Bismarck Hospital where they partnered with their friends Peachy and Ognar to help out in the lunch room there and in the gift shop. She crocheted afghans and doilies for all family and friends as long as her eyesight allowed and also loved to play dominoes with her neighbors in her condo near Northbrook. Dorothy and Sigurd worked for Meals on Wheels, packing and delivering meals to shut-ins until Dorothy turned 90 and her eyesight wouldn't allow her to drive anymore. They especially enjoyed visiting and staying with their family in Bismarck, Seattle and Minnesota. In her mid-80's she was so excited to drive a jet ski which she called ‘the jet' at Lake George while her daughter, son-in-law and grandkids watched from the dock. She is survived by one daughter, Sigrun (Don) Clausnitzer, Auburn, California; three sons, Samuel (Delonis) Lovold, Burlington, Washington; Norton (Patricia) Lovold, Bismarck, and Tim (Beth) Lovold, Seattle, Washington; seven grandchildren Matthew Lovold, Michelle (Mike) O'Grady, Cassandra (Scott) Stratton, Andrew (Dyana) Lovold, Jennifer (Dan Pape) Lovold, Hollie (Mike Daly) Clausnitzer, and Ryan (Nicole Blake) Clausnitzer; and seven great-grandchildren, Esme and Agatha Pape, Alexandra and Ashlyn Stratton, Sean and Eamon O'Grady, and Helen Clausnitzer. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband Sigurd in 1999, three sisters, Marion Skager, Mandan; Lucy Matteson, New Mexico, and Ruth Krogstad, Pewaukee; a niece (Sue Krogstad) and a nephew (John Skager).
