She was born June 23, 1913 to John C. and Queen Victoria Kent Doran. Born and raised in Ottumwa Dorothy moved to Keokuk as a young woman in the fine apparel business. On June 21, 1935, she married David Cochran in Galesburg, Il. Dorothy moved to Ottumwa with two daughters during WW 11 when David entered the Navy. After the war, the couple entered the restaurant business beginning with Dave's Snack Shack on Vine Street, The Stardust, and finally The Red Lion Inn. Dorothy's love of the food insured the success of each restaurant. Survivors include two daughters, Carol Meredith of Ottumwa and Vicki Ruiz of Waukesha, WI; and three grandchildren. She was preceded by her parents; a brother, Hugh Doran; a sister Maxine Steel, and her husband David in 1993. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday September 10, 2005 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Lon Lewis officiating. Memorials may be made to the family to be disbursed to Dorothy's favorite charities. Robertson-Jay Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
