Description	:	Dorothy Selma Hartzer was born June 25, 1896, at Leeds, Iowa, to Rudolf and Emma (Harder) Lubbert. When she was five, her parents, brother and sister moved to eastern Charles Mix County to a farm near Joubert. She attended schools in the rural area and in Platte. She married Jess Hartzer March 24, 1915 in Platte and they farmed until his death in November 1925. She lived with their three children in Platte until 1938 when they moved to Huron. When she was five, her parents, brother and sister moved to eastern Charles Mix County to a farm near Joubert. She attended schools in the rural area and in Platte. She married Jess Hartzer March 24, 1915 in Platte and they farmed until his death in November 1925. She lived with their three children in Platte until 1938 when they moved to Huron. In 1941 the family moved to Elgin, Ill. From 1966-84 Dorothy was a winter resident of Tucson. In August of 1985, she became a permanent resident in Tucson. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Earl (Lois) Bates (formerly Mrs. Herbert Christen), Huron; two sons, LaVern J. Hartzer, Austin, Tex. and Marlow J. Hartzer, South Padre Island, Tex; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren, and two sisters Bertha Cross, Rapid City, and Helen Vander Voort, Sibley, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother and three sisters.
